Weddington Way October Style Challenge

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Weddington Way to participate in a fun bridesmaid style challenge. This challenge came at the perfect time since my sister-in-law just got engaged and I have been constantly looking for bridesmaid dresses! I started scouring the Weddington Way website and fell in love with this dress. I tried to keep (somewhat!) to the color scheme my sister-in-law is planning, but I took some liberties to change things up just a bit. I love this subtle champagne color paired with the deep berry red color and a soft blush pink. It’s such a classy color combination, and it’s timeless without being cliche. Plus, isn’t the cut of this dress gorgeous?! I love that there are modest dresses to choose from on their website that are beautiful and sophisticated instead of awkward and frumpy.

Oh my goodness…I just love this dress!

I styled the dress with bold nails for a pop of color, peep-toe shoes (because they are just too cute), these gorgeous drop earrings that I could never afford in real life but can gush over online, and a lovely bouquet of dahlias and peonies to change things up a little from the traditional deep red rose.

Thanks for helping me shop, Weddington Way!

Ladies, how adorable is this dress? This post has been a long time coming. Back in August Eshakti contacted me and allowed me to pick a dress from their website to review. I was so excited! Eshakti is a website that allows you to completely customize the clothes you order, including not only the measurements, but also the style! You can change the length of the skirt, sleeve length, neckline, keep or remove the pockets–this is my dream website. So often I fall in love with an item of clothing or a particular fabric pattern only to find that the hemline is too short, or the neckline too low, or it’s sleeveless. Modesty is important to me, but sometimes it’s hard to feel like I have to sacrifice fashion to maintain my standards. Not with Eshakti!

I ended up picking two dresses because the first dress didn’t work for me. It was more user error than Eshakti’s fault–I had ordered just by choosing a generic size instead of custom ordering, and when it came it wasn’t the color I was expecting because my screen resolution wasn’t very good when I was looking at my options. When I emailed them to see if there was any way I could choose something else, they were so understanding and helpful! They emailed me a return label so I wouldn’t have to pay for return shipping and told me that I could make a new selection. That’s when I saw this adorable yellow flamingo print. I knew I had to choose this dress! I decided to order using custom measurements this time, and I’m so glad I did. I was so excited when it finally came that I tried it on immediately and it fit perfectly!

I love the bold pattern, I love how flowy the skirt is, and I absolutely love, love, love the fact that it has pockets. The dress is made really well, too. Eshakti definitely makes high quality clothing, and I am so happy that they contacted me to work with them. Be sure to check out their site–right now if you sign up with them you get a coupon for $25 off! You can also check out Eshakti on social media:  Facebook, PinterestTwitter.

Fun Florals Flashback

I have a love-hate relationship with florals. I love the idea of flowery prints, but in practicality most of the time I end up feeling like I look like an old lady. Maybe I just haven’t giving it enough of a chance yet? I love seeing this trend on everyone else, but I just haven’t tried very hard to be able to pull this off myself.

This week I decided I wanted to go out on a bit of a limb fashion-wise and try to incorporate the flowery look into my wardrobe, only to realize that I have literally only 3 things in my closet with flowers on them. A dress, a skirt, and an old(er) bathing suit. All three of them have a pretty, bold print, and I realized it has been ages since I have worn any of them. I realized upon discovering them again that I do love the flowers on all of them, and I was glad I didn’t have to go out and spend money to experiment with the trend. It can be so nice to go shopping in your own closet!

The last time I wore this beautiful dress, I was nine months pregnant (yay for stretchy fabric!) I love how crazy comfy the dress is, and the colors–especially the bright turquoise flowers–make me so happy. Why has it been so long since I have worn this?! Maternity 035 squareSkirt close upMaternity 058

When I was pregnant I layered this black top over the dress to better define my belly. Without it the dress was a bit flowy, and since I was wearing it for maternity pictures I wanted as much belly as possible! I wear a lightweight cropped cardigan with it normally to help make it not only a bit more modest but also a more put together look. I’m considering experimenting with altering it and adding sleeves so I don’t have to always wear it with the cardigan, but I might make it into just a skirt instead. I don’t know anything about alterations or sewing, so it would be a great learning experience. Any of your how-to tips or words of wisdom are appreciated!

The best part about the dress? I found it at Ross for a steal of a deal. I love when that happens!

As a side note: I can’t believe my baby turns 10 months old tomorrow. I feel like it was just yesterday we were taking these pictures!

One Dress, Two Ways

Can I be honest with you all?

I would love–like really love–to be able to be a “fashion blogger.” I love clothes, I love style, I love love love accessories…but that’s just not realistic for me right now. Maybe someday I will be in a situation where I have tons of readers and sponsors send me amazing pieces or bags or shoes or jewelry that I can style and wear and promote, but that’s not where I am in the blogging world today.

Since I started blogging, the majority of the blogs I follow are fashion oriented. I’ve realized in the last few weeks that since that is mostly what I am reading and seeing on Instagram, that is mostly what I am thinking about.

Things. All the time.

I’ve stretched our budget super thin in the last few weeks trying to pretend I could afford pieces that we simply just can’t…all for the sake of being able to style them and share them here. It finally hit me at the beginning of this week–that is just craziness! I am a firm believer that when you look good, you feel good, but there is so much more to life and so many more important things to focus on. So, that being said, my style posts in the future are going to be a lot more focused on different ways to wear or style a single item. I might not always be exactly on trend or have the perfect bag/shoes/jewelry to accessorize an outfit with, but I will be living within our means, which quite frankly is way more important.

As a side note…if any of you out there reading this want to sponsor my blog or send me things, I am totally on board! Okay…just wanted to put that out there. Haha.

Anyway…let’s get to it.

I mentioned in my very first What I Wore Wednesday post that I almost never find anything at Old Navy that works for me. I don’t know what happened this year, but Old Navy has been almost the only place that I have found things! I am all about comfortable pieces now that I’m at home with Evan most of the time, but I also like to feel put together. This fitted tee dress is amazing. It is so, so comfy and it can easily be dressed up or down. I had debated buying it (because of our budget!), but when I saw one of my friends wearing it in a different print, I knew I had to have it too. Dressy vs Casual CollageI think this color blue is so beautiful! I decided to go with this one instead of a print because this color will work well across all seasons. I’m looking forward to styling it later this year for cooler weather. Well, in theory at least. It’s always 85° and sunny here! And yes, I know I’m super pale for living in Hawaii. I’ve got to make it a priority to get to the beach more this year!

For the casual look, I think this dress would look great with a belt too. I don’t currently have one in my wardrobe that fits the bill though, so I suppose I’ll just have to wait to experiment with that. Sitting to the side Tada pose Bottom half The dressy look is simple and polished. Sometimes I feel like less really is more! I’ve worn this look to work, church, and hopefully a date-night in the near future. Also, this clutch is actually a large Tory Burch sunglasses case which I talked about in my June favorite things post last year. I love multi-tasking pieces!
